Inside The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid has an eight and a half meter high corridor called the Great Gallery. It leads to the King’s Chamber, a room with red granite walls. Designed as tombs for Egyptian Pharaohs, the three pyramids in Giza also stored supplies that the ancient Egyptians believed the pharaohs would need in the afterlife. However, the grave robbers have left only the broken sarcophagus of the pharaoh, which it too big to go through the entrance.

There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. The lowest chamber is cut into the bedrock upon which the pyramid was built and was unfinished. The Queen’s Chamber and King’s Chamber are higher up within the pyramid structure.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only known pyramid in Egypt that contain both descending and ascending passages. The main part of the Giza plateau complex is a setting of many buildings. There are two mortuary temples in honor of Khufu. The complex also contains three smaller pyramids for Khufu’s wives, one small satellite pyramid, and causeway connecting the two temples. Nobles are also included and for them there are mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid.
