The Great Sphinx of Giza History

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a statue that stands in Giza, Egypt on the Giza Plateau. It is a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. With its 20 meters height, 73 meters length and 6 meters width, it is the largest monolith statue in the world. In addition, it is the oldest known monumental sculpture.

Historians have no idea who the model for the human face of the Sphinx was. They also do not have enough facts to determine exactly when it was built and by whom. Most common theory is that the ancient Egyptians have built the Sphinx in the third millennium BC. The mystery is actually greater because there are no inscriptions in Ancient Egyptian writings suggesting construction or even the presence of the Sphinx.

The Sphinx was buried in sand up to its shoulders after the Giza Necropolis was abandoned. The first attempts to dig it out dates back to 1400 BC, when the young Tutmosis IV formed an excavation party that managed to dig the front paws out. The Sphinx is thought to be a guardian figure, which is protecting the Khafre’s tomb by evil spirits.

I was just searching for this information for some time. After 6 hours of continuous Googleing, finally I got it in your website. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this kind of informative sites in top of the list. Usually the top websites are full of garbage.
